Varietal: Riesling
Region: Rheinhessen, GER
Winemakers: Bianka + Daniel Schmitt

The 2021 'Monsheim' is a beautifully textured, biodynamic Riesling grown on limestone, loess, flint, and clay soils. The grapes are hand-harvested late in October, macerated for 24 hours, and aged on gross lees in large old oak casks for nine months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulphites, this Riesling is a balance of ripe pear, lemon zest, apricot, and white pepper, with a refreshing minerality and depth. A wine that evolves in the glass, offering layers of complexity and purity.

About the Winemakers
Bianka + Daniel Schmitt

Bianka + Daniel Schmitt are at the forefront of Germany’s natural wine movement, crafting biodynamic wines in Rheinhessen with minimal intervention. Their 16-hectare estate has been family-owned for over 200 years, and for the past decade, they’ve farmed it biodynamically under Demeter certification - one of only 80 such producers in Germany. Using amphorae and old oak barrels, they create pure, expressive wines that showcase the true potential of this often-overlooked region.

Bianka + Daniel are part of a new generation of German winemakers redefining Rheinhessen’s reputation. Once known for mass production, the region is now home to innovative producers like the Schmitts, who focus on low yields and terroir-driven wines. Their philosophy is simple: make wine "only from grapes." Good stuff. With a commitment to biodynamics, they cultivate their vines with respect for nature, avoiding additives and allowing their wines to develop naturally. Their approach has earned them recognition as pioneers in German natural wine, and their wines, full of energy and life, are a testament to their craft.
