About the Winemaker
Kate McIntyre | Moorooduc Estate
Kate McIntyre is the powerhouse behind Moorooduc Estate’s wine biz, juggling everything from sales to marketing with the same enthusiasm she pours into every bottle of wine. As the eldest daughter of owners Jill and Richard, she grew up around the vineyard, but never thought it would lead her to become one of the world’s exclusive Masters of Wine (a title she bagged after 10 years of study!). Fun fact: there are more astronauts in the world than Masters of Wine! While her expertise is in demand globally, the Mornington Peninsula always pulls her back home. What started as a reluctant visit to her parents' vineyard turned into a full-blown love affair with winemaking, where Kate now blends tradition with a little bit of innovation to craft wines that are bold, fresh, and exceedingly delicious.
What started as a humble little winery back in 1987 has steadily grown into one of the great gems of the Mornington Peninsula. Today, Moorooduc Estate is rocking a 200-tonne winery, complete with top-notch press and chilling facilities to tackle the warmer climate. The focus here is all about gentle, hands-off winemaking - wild ferments, whole bunches, and wines that really let the land do the talking. They’re big on regenerative agriculture, always learning new ways to boost soil health and biodiversity, while crafting wines that are as pure and delicious as possible.
