Varietal: Barbera
Region: Emilia-Romagna, IT
Winemakers: Danila Mongardi + Gabriele Monti

The 2021 Barbera seeks to express all the potential of Barbera. Post fermentation in stainless steel, the wine is left to macerate on skins for 3-4 months in Tuscan terracotta amphorae to give the wine a character of great elegance, minerality and longevity utilising the most natural methods. Refinement in bottle for about 3 months.

This is a surprisingly delicate take on Barbara and is perfect for red wine drinkers in search of a lighter warm weather option. Cinnamon, bright cranberry, poppy seed and orange peel bound together with delicate acidity and soft, but chalky tannins. A no brainer wine match with our delicious new addition to the spring menu - Sobrasada and Goats cheese on Toast with Rosemary and Thyme Honey.

About the Winemakers
Danila Mongardi + Gabriele Monti

Al di là del Fiume (beyond the river) started in 2006 as the brainchild of husband and wife Danila Mongardi and Gabriele Monti. Their farm is located in the area in front of the Monte Sole Regional Park in Marzabotto, just outside of Bologna, Emilia Romagna. They created a multifunctional biodynamic agricultural organism with productive, educational, recreational, artistic and therapeutic activities aimed at the wellbeing of man and the environment. The farm consists of three hectares of vineyards, one hectare of vegetable garden, half a hectare of ancient fruits, one hectare of ancient cereals and half a hectare of traditional medicinal plants.

They run their 27 hectares of land as a cultural and spiritual escape, offering biodynamic farming classes, art tuition, cooking classes, a sanctuary for ideas and those wanting to slow down and reconnect with nature.
