Varietal: Cortese
Region: Piemonte, IT
Winemaker: Clara Milani

This delicious Cortese is impossible not to enjoy. Finely balanced acidity, flavours of lemon and jasmine softened by a hint of bread dough and a creamy finish, thanks to a few months on lees prior to bottling. Equally at home at a summer picnic or formal soiree, we’ll be drinking ours pre-dinner with salted almonds, olives or smoked kingfish.

Calcareous and clayish soils, 400m altitude with a south-east-west exposure. In keeping with the farm’s biodynamic principles, the vines are farmed without any use of chemicals. Grapes are grown in ideal conditions for Cortese – good balance of sugar and acidity making this a classic Gavi - an easy drinking, yet very sophisticated white wine.

About the Winemaker
Clara Milani

Oenologist, production manager and vineyard manager, Clara Milani is across every aspect of wine production at La Raia. Having honed her craft at various impressive wine estates Clara understands how to interpret each grape and harvest to obtain the ideal wine that best represents the terroir.

La Raia is a Demeter certified byodinamic farm located in the heart of the Gavi hills.
The vast estate extends over 180 hectares, including 50 hectares of vineyards, 60 hectares of fields and the remaining are pastures, chestnut, elderflower and acacia woodlands protecting numerous species of animal and plant life.

The Rossi Cairo family purchased La Raia in 2003, with the aim of recovering and enhancing the original ecosystem observing biodynamic principles.
