The 2021 ‘Sciasci’ Sciascinoso from Capolino Perlingieri is as complex as it is bold. Made by Alexia Capolino Perlingieri from the Solopaca region of Benevento, the nose opens with smoky leather and bitter tobacco, followed by herbal undertones reminiscent of cough medicine and the aromatic qualities of dried bay and violet. Sounds intense, right? Just wait. The palate offers a bright acidic freshness and distinct grassy notes for ultimate balance.

About the winemaker

Alexia Capolino Perlingieri, a third-generation winemaker, has carried on her family's winemaking legacy in the rugged region of Solopaca, Campania. After a successful career in finance, Alexia returned to her family’s land to continue the viticultural tradition her mother had inherited from her grandfather. She restored the old stone house and cellar where the wines are made and converted the vineyards to organic farming. Under her leadership, Capolino Perlingieri has flourished, with a focus on highlighting indigenous grapes, particularly Sciascinoso. Alexia’s decision to focus on Sciascinoso, a grape traditionally blended with Aglianico, reflects her commitment to crafting wines that express the unique characteristics of the volcanic Benevento terroir.
