About the Winemaker
Josephine Perry | Dormilona
Dormilona is a boutique winery in Margaret River, founded by award-winning winemaker Jo Perry. Translating to "Lazy Bones" in Spanish, the name reflects Jo’s laid-back but meticulous approach to winemaking - organic, minimal intervention, and focused on showcasing the purity of fruit. Sourcing grapes from family-owned vineyards using biodynamic practices, Dormilona has gained international acclaim while staying true to its handcrafted philosophy.
Jo Perry’s journey into winemaking began in Margaret River, inspired by her grandfather, a brewer at Perth’s Swan Brewery. After earning a Bachelor of Wine Science from Charles Sturt University, she refined her skills in prestigious wine regions across France, Spain, and the U.S.
It was in Spain that Jo earned the nickname "Dormilona" for her early surf sessions and exhausted evenings. Her approach to winemaking, however, is anything but lazy - she takes a hands-off, natural approach, allowing the fruit to shine. Since launching Dormilona in 2012, Jo has won multiple awards, including Young Gun of Wine. When she’s not crafting wines, Jo can be found surfing, gardening, or spending time with her family in Margaret River.
